TOMS RIVER, NJ – August 21, 2020 – David Richter, Republican Nominee for New Jersey’s Third Congressional District criticized Andy Kim for the lack of action to protect New Jersey’s small business community.

“The small businesses that are the backbone of our economy are in crisis and many will never reopen their doors to see a post-COVID world. Despite that, Andy Kim is once again all talk and no action. Instead of writing puff pieces for The Rolling Stone that talk about “creatively rebuilding the restaurant industry” while offering no real solutions, now is the time for Andy Kim and the Democrats that control the House of Representatives to end their summer vacation and return to Washington. The tourism and hospitality industry is crucially important to South Jersey and the entire state. We need an immediate plan to ensure that the thousands of small businesses, and the tens of thousands of people that they employ, are not needlessly lost forever as a result of this crisis,” said Richter.

He continued, “Andy Kim has an opportunity to make things right for the voters in the Third District. After breaking his promise to the district and voting for Nancy Pelosi on his first day in office, he should now be demanding that Pelosi end the vacation for Congress, get back to work immediately and come up with a plan to protect our struggling small businesses. He should also be demanding that Governor Murphy immediately end his ban on inside dining and give mom-and-pop restaurants throughout New Jersey a chance to survive.”

Richter is the former CEO of global construction management firm Hill International. During his time at the company, Hill grew from a struggling family business with less than 300 employees into a successful public company with more than 4,300 employees. A lifelong Republican, Richter grew up in and has spent most of his life living and working in the Third District. He earned two bachelor’s degrees and a law degree from Penn as well as master’s degrees from Oxford and Harvard. Richter and his wife Michelle, who have been married for 20 years, are the parents of four teenage daughters.
