TOMS RIVER, NJ – June 2, 2020 – David Richter, Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s Third District, today responded to the lies and misrepresentations contained in the first television commercial released by his opponent Kate Gibbs.
“I am disappointed but not surprised that Kate Gibbs continues to think her only path to victory in this election is by lying to the voters. Integrity is once again missing from her desperate and failing campaign, as she knows full well that the attacks she makes against me in her very first TV commercial are false,” said Richter.
Her first false allegation is that the efforts of Richter’s former company Hill International to expand into China was to “steal American jobs.” On the contrary, not a single American job at Hill was outsourced to China. Hill’s offices there created new jobs to help manage construction projects in China, work that could only be done on the ground in China.
Gibbs’ second false allegation is that at Hill, Richter was “dealing with terrorist Muammar Gaddafi.” The truth is that Richter never met or ever had any dealings with Gaddafi. Hill did provide services during the expansion of the University of Tripoli and several other college campuses in Libya, but only after the U.S. Government lifted economic sanction against Libya in 2004 and subsequently authorized U.S. companies to do business there.
Her third false allegation was that “Richter partnered with Joe Biden’s family to pump business through Obama’s State Department.” Yet another completely false allegation. Richter never partnered with anyone in Biden’s family. Joe Biden’s brother Jim for a time worked at a separate company in which Hill was an investor, and Jim never had any role within Hill. In fact, Richter advocated against making any investment in that company, the company and its management team never reported to Richter, that company never pursued any work with the State Department, and the company was eventually shut down and Jim Biden fired at Richter’s insistence.
Gibbs’ final false claim was that “Richter attacked President Trump.” On the contrary, Richter has been a supporter of President Trump during his entire presidency and has endorsed him for re-election in 2020. This is an ironic allegation coming from Gibbs, however, who has failed to endorse President Trump either in 2016 or in 2020. Maybe that’s because of what her union employer IUOE Local 825 did in 2016, which was to endorse Hillary Clinton for President and donate $3 million to Clinton’s campaign against President Trump.
“The voters are quickly recognizing what they can expect from Gibbs: dishonesty, a lack of integrity, and a willingness to say anything to get elected. The voters in the Third District deserve better than Kate Gibbs,” added Richter.
Richter is the former CEO of global construction management firm Hill International. During his time at the company, Hill grew from a struggling family business with less than 300 employees into a successful public company with more than 4,300 employees. A lifelong Republican, Richter grew up in and has spent most of his life living and working in the Third District. He earned two bachelor’s degrees and a law degree from Penn as well as master’s degrees from Oxford and Harvard. Richter and his wife Michelle, who have been married for 20 years, are the parents of four daughters.
