TOMS RIVER, NJ – August 17, 2020 – David Richter, Republican nominee for Congress in New Jersey’s Third District, attacked Democratic Rep. Andy Kim for using a fake news website to promote himself and his campaign.
“I have seen quite a few positive Andy Kim articles posted recently on Facebook from a website called Courier Newsroom. After a little investigating, it became clear that the site was not affiliated with the local Courier-Post newspaper but was actually a fake news website that is being paid to promote Democratic candidates,” said Richter.
According to a recent article in The Washington Post, “Courier Newsroom is a clandestine political operation, publishing, among other things, positive stories about moderate Democrats who face difficult reelections in November. Courier’s main backer is Acronym, a liberal dark-money group that has invested heavily in Democratic digital advertising and campaign technology.”
The Post article also stated that, “Courier discloses its connection to Acronym but provides no information about the group or its donors, who remain anonymous due to Acronym’s nonprofit status. Because it obscures its funders and agenda, Courier’s ‘news’ operation leads to the same result as conspiracy theories or outright lies: readers are deceived.”
“I call on Andy Kim and his campaign to immediately discontinue using this ‘fake news’ promoter and apologize to the voters for trying to deceive them,” Richter demanded.
