TOMS RIVER, NJ – April 15, 2020 – David Richter, the Republican candidate running to represent New Jersey’s Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, filed his first quarter 2020 financial report earlier today with the Federal Election Commission.
To date, Richter has raised a total of $772,000 for his congressional campaign, which includes $172,000 from donors and $600,000 of his own funds. During the first quarter, Richter raised $119,000, which included $100,000 of his own funds. The campaign ended the first quarter with $462,000 cash on hand, more than four times the amount of cash on hand that his primary opponent Kate Gibbs currently has.
Richter Campaign Manager Tom Bonfonti said, “The Gibbs’ campaign struggles continue. It’s no surprise that after a second consecutive quarter of weak fundraising, Gibbs is trying to spin the facts and claims to be running an ‘unconventional campaign’. During her one term as a Freeholder, both taxes and spending increased. If she would have been this thrifty back then, maybe she would still be a Freeholder today.” He added, “David is the only candidate in the race who has and will continue to consistently stand with our President, and it is now clear that he is also the only candidate with the financial ability to take on and defeat Andy Kim.”
Last month, Richter won the endorsement of the Ocean County Republican Organization. The primary is now scheduled for July 7, 2020.
Richter is the former CEO of global construction management firm Hill International. During his time at the company, Hill grew from a struggling family business with less than 300 employees into a successful public company with more than 4,300 employees. A lifelong Republican, Richter grew up in and has spent most of his life living and working in the Third District. He earned two bachelor’s degrees and a law degree from Penn as well as master’s degrees from Oxford and Harvard. Richter and his wife Michelle, who have been married for 20 years, are the parents of four daughters.
